After you install

Three things worth doing first.

Add one fixture

Load a GDTF file, or load the manufacturer's manual and let the built-in AI write the fixture file for you.

Pick your output

In Settings, pick your USB interface and click Connect, or turn on Art-Net and choose your node. You can also work with no hardware attached.

Bring it up

Open the Fixture Faders, raise the Grand Master and move the fixture's faders. The light should follow.

Before you download

What exactly is limited in the free version?

Only the session length. Every feature is unlocked and you can save and reopen show files. After two hours the session ends and you restart the app - as often as you like.

Do I need admin rights on the PC?

No. The installer runs without admin rights, which matters on a venue machine you do not own.

Will Windows warn me about the download?

No. Both downloads are signed with an Extended Validation certificate, so Windows shows Simple DMX as the verified publisher.

I am upgrading from an older version. Anything to watch?

Check the news section for version compatibility before you upgrade an existing installation, so your show files open as expected.

Can I try it without any DMX hardware?

Yes. Add fixtures, program scenes and run the timeline with nothing plugged in. Attach an interface when you are ready to light something real.
